Townsville Baptist Church is not just about church services, it's also a place where you can develop great friendships, share common interests together, find opportunities to serve the community and explore faith together. Many LifeGroups meet throughout the city during the week and provide the opportunity for this to occur. Nevertheless, meeting together as a large group to honour God is an exciting part of our life together. Worship Services: If you've never been to a church service before, or haven't been to one like ours, you may be pleasantly surprised to find how relaxed we are! There's no dress code, no expectations, the teaching is relaxed and relevant and in easy to. In fact, we think you'll soon feel right at home! To help give you an idea of the kinds of things that take place in one of our Sunday Services, here's some details: - Duration - At Townsville Baptist we have three services...two in the morning and one at night. Service times are: 8:30am, 10am and 6:30pm. Each service goes for about 60 minutes.
- Music - One way of worshipping God is by singing together. This is done through a contemporary band i.e. drums, guitars, keyboards, etc. In each service there might be several songs played at different times during the service. There is a even mix of modern day worship music and traditional songs.
- Prayer - Prayer is just a way of communicating with God and are said throughout the service. These prayers are often led by someone in a ministry role in the church that is given the privilege of praying.
- Offering - There is a monetary offering collected once in each service. This is mostly aimed at regular attenders at Townsville Baptist who would like to give thanks to God and thank Him for what He's provided. If you are new or a visitor to our church, we do not expect you to put anything in the offering bag.
- Messages - Our messages are given by our pastors or guest speakers, who talk about relevant issues and what the Bible says about them. We often read the Bible during each message. If you forget a Bible, no need to worry. The Bible readings are often read out by the person who is giving the sermon.
- Communion - The first morning service and the third evening service of each month also includes a short communion time where we eat bread and drink grape juice, symbolically remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus said that we should keep doing this until He comes again. If you don't wish to take part in this then don't feel embarassed about letting it pass.
- Children's Church - We have a children's program during the morning services that starts about 15 minutes into the service. This is for children from 3 years of age to Year 7. Within child safe environment we provide some exciting age-specific teaching and activities led by a bunch of enthusiastic leaders and helpers. Of course, children are also welcome to stay in the service.
- Nursery - We also have a nursery and activities for toddlers during the morning services.
- Refreshments - Between the morning services free refreshments are provided in Cafe Chat (in the Hall). It's a chance for you to mingle with people from the Townsville Baptist family. For night services, every second evening is Café Chat which provides more opportunity to talk and enjoy a small meal and drinks in a relaxed setting.
- Newcomers - We value our visitors and newcomers highly and welcome them each week to a special Welcome Lounge at the rear of the auditorium. Friendly volunteers are there each week to welcome you and provide any assistance necessary.
We look forward to meeting you at one of our services. You'll find a many friendly people wanting to make your visit a memorablle and welcoming one!
